Nine Inch Nails – “The Downward Spiral” – 2004 (Reissue)
Remember how Nine Inch Nails came out with that nearly perfect album The Downward Spiral? Well, Japan said, what if we made it even more epic? We’re just gonna slip their cover of “Dead Souls” into the latter part of the track list and see if anyone notices. Spoiler alert: Most people did not.
Soundgarden – “Superunknown” – 1994
Just when you thought 1994 couldn’t get any more epic for Japanese CD releases … it does. Soundgarden tack on “She Likes Surprises” to the end of their breakthrough crossover hit album.
Slipknot – “All Hope Is Gone” – 2008
In addition to the bonus DVD, this release from the men in masks and mascara got 3 bonus tracks. One can only assume they were rejected by Up With People for being too bubbly.
Stone Sour – “Stone Sour” – 2003
Hey, that’s the name of the band -and- the album! If the bonus DVD wasn’t enough to entice you to buy this, the men without masks or mascara offer up 5 bonus tracks. Also, again, too chipper for the glee club circuits.
INXS – “Full Moon, Dirty Hearts” – 1993
Lost in the fray of the 2 greatest years of musical output history (1993-1994), the blokes from down under came out with this album and looked to tip their cap to their Mad Max upbringings by adding a bonus cover of this American road classic.
Foo Fighters – “The Colour & The Shape” – 1997
Another masterpiece of an album that did not really need anything extra. But who are we to look a gift Japanese horse in the mouth? Neigh us, I say! The Foos bestow upon us “Dear Lover” as a bonus track on this release.
Funeral For A Friend – “Hours” – 2005
This hardcore band dropped 2 bonus tracks on this release. The latter being a more poignant, acoustic song that smacks of Linkin Park’s Chester turning it down a notch.
The White Stripes – “Elephant” – 2003
This is like the 4th kick ass album on this show that was good enough as is, but Japan cranked the awesomeness up to 11. With a bonus DVD and 2 bonus tracks, the Elephant is now jumbo sized. Give her a wide berth.
We hope you enjoyed reading and check back next week for the 6th installment of the Akavinyl Bonus Track Spotlight.
