Enjoy installment #2: electronica bonus tracks! All of these items are available on this site. Click the links below to see more details for each.

Underworld – “Barbara, Barbara, We Face A Shining Future” – 2016

A dark and sinister brooder, “Twenty Three Blue” closes out Underworld’s 2016 release as Track 8 on the Japanese version.

Orbital – “The Altogether 2001

Not labeled all that clearly on the release, this bonus track is simply put as “Beelzebeat.” But, of what? The answer is as a remix of Track 2, “Funny Break (One Is Enough).” So, there ya go!

Leftfield – “Rhythm & Stealth– 1999

A few years prior to that, Leftfield added a bonus track to their “Rhythm & Stealth” Japanese CD release called “Phat Planet (Alternate Mix).”

The Chemical Brothers- “Push The Button– 2005

A frequent visitor to Japan on tour, the Chemicals often add bonus items to their CDs, whether it be add-on videos or bonus tracks. For 2005’s “Push The Button,” they gave us the extra “Giant.”

The Chemical Brothers – “We Are The Night” – 2007

And then 2 years later, they one-upped themselves and gave us 2 bonus tracks entitled “Seal” and “No Need.”

Junkie XL – “Radio JXL: A Broadcast From The Computer Hell Cabin– 2003

For many of us, Junkie XL appeared on our collective radar when Dave Gahan of Depeche Mode and Robert Smith of The Cure lent guest vocals to 2 stellar tracks on this 2003 release. The Japanese version is a 2-disc set and has a bonus track, “Tennis,” inserted right at the start.

Moby – “Destroyed” – 2011

Not to be outdone, Moby is also fond providing bonus materials on many of his CDs. One such example is “Sandpaper” which is annexed to the end of his 2011 Japanese CD release of “Destroyed.” This is the prototypical Moby sound right here.

C.J. Bolland – “Electronic Highway– 1996

Allegedly a “live” bonus track, we challenge you to find any whiff of live-ness to this bonus track called “Horsepower” which capped off his 1996 Japanese CD release of “Electronic Highway.”

Underworld – “Barking” – 2010

Ending back where we started, we end this episode with a snippet of a bonus track from Underworld’s 2010 Japanese CD release called “Simple Peal.” Both the standard and the limited edition (with extra DVD) releases in Japan have this bonus track. It is an aptly titled and minimal number.

We hope you enjoyed reading and check back next week for the 3rd installment of the Akavinyl Bonus Track Spotlight.
